Educational Outreach Project: Amateur Radio Station at Sacred Heart School of Halifax
A significant milestone on the road to establishing an Amateur Radio Station at Sacred Heart School of Halifax (Spring Garden Road, across from the Public Garden) was met on Friday, March 25, 2011 with the installation of a VHF antenna and cabling.
This image is west facing and depicts the Wade-Delhi Model TRM-3 tripod supporting a Cushcraft AR-2 Ringo on a 4 ft SCH 80 aluminum (6061 T-6) mast. The 4 ft square base is constructed of pressure treated 4x4 lumber and picks up on two securing points on the roof through 7x7 aircraft grade steel cable. Additional weight will be provided with concrete cinder blocks if and as required. Height of antenna above ground is ~40 ft.
Radio testing from the school has been deferred until the later part of next week because of an on-going school activities. Full operational capability will following shortly thereafter.
Further information on this educational outreach project will be available in the next edition of the Reflector.
